Woman Become Obese After Fecal Transplant

It seems the old adage of ‘you are what you eat’ holds true for both ends of the human body. A new treatment called fecal transplant is being used to treat patients who have a condition known as C. difficile. The condition causes the colon to become inflamed and leads to a variety of painful digestive issues, like chronic diarrhea, fever, loss of appetite and abdominal pain.

Fecal transplant is a procedure that removes fecal mater from a healthy donor (a person who does not have C. difficile) and places it in the gut of the patient with the condition. Fecal transplant also caused one recipient to become obese.
Soon after receiving the fecal transplant from the patient’s overweight, but otherwise healthy, daughter, Soon thereafter the patient began to inexplicably gain weight and is continuing to gain more weight despite adhering to a diet and exercise program.
