The Leadership and Advocacy of James Dondero
With over 30 years of impressive business background in the field of credit markets, James Dondero, President, and Co-founder of Highland Capital Management, L.P., is at the helm of all the investment programs for one of the world’s largest and most reputable global credit managers. Mr. Dondero is the current manager of around $21 billion assets, along with his co-founder Mark Okada. His leadership has given rise to a series of achievements and is popularly credited to have pioneered the Collateralized Loan Obligation (CLO) and launched the first bank-free CLO in 1996.
Highland Capital recently gave a generous donation of $1,000,000 to bring Hippos back to the Dallas Zoo through the decision of Mr. Dondero. This donation is in line with Mr. Dondero’s commitment to building a 4.485-square-foot lodge that will showcase an incredible array of educational exhibits and private events. James Dondero’s organization is entirely committed to the various charitable organization and is, in fact, able to generate over $3 million of donation for such advocacies.
James Dondero declared in a press interview that his dedication to the Dallas community through his involvement in transferring the hippos hopefully could inspire other people to help the community. He went on explaining that Highland Capital Management is more than happy to help mobilize the charity work for the animals. The donation from the firm was able to construct the Hippo Encounter underwater view deck where zookeepers hold their talks.
Other charities for which Highland Capital Management showed their support include the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, the George W Bush Presidential Library, American Heart Association and Museum and the Centre for Brain Health. Other than donating generous amounts of money to various organizations, James Dondero also makes sure that his firm conducts leadership training and guidance for other groups.
The investors behind James Dondero’s advocacies have made sure that the new Hippo Habitat will help in attracting more millions of visitors to the zoo. The creation of the habitat is also a testament that people can move mountains when they mix collective effort and vision with the guidance of a good leader.
