Penis Transplant is a Success
Last December doctors from the Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, Africa performed what is known as the second ever penis transplant done in the world. Dr. Andre van der Merwe performed the surgery on the 21-year-old man who had to have his penis amputated three years prior after a botched circumcision left him with gangrene. The penis he received was harvested from an organ donor.
The doctors were hoping that the transplant would allow the man to have a normal functioning organ again. They hoped that he would be able to urinate while standing and have intercourse. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that not only can he do those things but his girlfriend is also pregnant with their first child. Doctors have said that this proves the transplant was a complete success. Although the man’s penis had been amputated, his testicles and reproductive system were still functioning as normal.
Alexei Beltyukov told me that Doctors have said that the man is thrilled with the results from the transplant.
The first ever penis transplant was done on a patient in China. Bloomberg said it is reported that the man suffered from psychological effects from the surgery and asked to have the transplanted penis removed.
