Immigrants’ Rights with Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin
Every state has laws that govern how the state operates. The law is vital because it creates boundaries. It ensures that people who hurt others do not go away unpunished. Without the law, many people would end up oppressed and have nowhere to turn to for justice.
However, everything has a downside. The law is also subjective, and many people end up victims of the law. This is why the philanthropists exist in the society to balance the community.
Humanitarians are people who have taken it upon themselves to invest their resources and time to fight for the rights of the minority. The most common right that is being abused globally is the immigrants’ right. This is as a result of a vast number of people living in countries as migrants. People move for different reasons. Some people move in search of employment, and others move to upgrade education status while others are in pursuit of peace from civil wars in their countries. The number of people living as immigrants is close to 200 million, not putting into consideration the undocumented migrants.
Immigrants have been denied fundamental rights and end up living in humiliation and fear. Many countries have also taken a right to participate in democratic decisions from them. Over the years, many organizations have been formed to ensure immigrant rights are observed. Some of this firms include;
The DACA Foundation
Some individuals have lived in the United States since they were young. It is, therefore, unfair to have such people deported. The organization is formed to ensure that these immigrants have a chance to remain in the country. The foundation has 800000 people that have qualified as members.
The Foundation gives the members a chance to stay in the country for two years from the deportation date. The member has an opportunity to renew their membership in the case they have not accomplished their mission. Some individuals use this period to acquire the legal documentation to remain in the country. Other members use the time to complete their education.
The DACA foundation beneficiaries are an asset to the state. This is because they contribute to the economic state of the country. Those who complete their education become the intellectual property of the state while those who settle with jobs use the money to pay car and house mortgages. This is revenue to the state.
Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund
The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund was formed by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. The two are also cofounders of ‘’The Phoenix New Times”.
Lacey and Larkin formed the organization after the incident with the sheriff. The two journalists published the malicious acts that the sheriff was involved in as their headline.
On learning this, the Sheriff was very angry and ordered their arrest. He drove them to an unknown location. However, after the society demonstrated, they were released in less than 24 hours.
When they went to court, they won the case and got a compensation of $3.75 million. They used this money to fund the immigrants of Arizona.
